Abstract

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening condition that is hard to diagnose and requires quick management to reduce morbidity and mortality. Thrombolysis has emerged as a cornerstone therapy for high-risk (massive) and intermediate-risk (sub-massive) PE cases. This presentation will examine the latest evidence, clinical indications, and methods for thrombolytic treatment in managing pulmonary embolism.

Key topics include risk stratification to identify patients who will benefit most from thrombolysis, balancing efficacy with bleeding risks, and incorporating catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) techniques will be included in this presentation. Recent advancements in imaging, biomarkers, and risk models for personalized decision-making will be discussed. The session will highlight data from crucial trials and real-world registries, providing insights into patient selection, dosing protocols, and the role of multidisciplinary pulmonary embolism response teams (PERTs).

This overview provides clinicians with practical insights to improve outcomes for patients with PE, connecting evolving evidence to daily practice.
